World Leader in Classed Floating Production Units
With decades of expertise, ABS stands as a trusted global leader in classing floating production units. Our unparalleled experience spans a wide range of innovative offshore technologies, supporting safety, reliability and performance.
Converted and Newbuild FPSOs
ABS set a precedent by classing the first FPSO in U.S. waters in 1978. Since then, we’ve continued to lead by developing proprietary tools for site-specific evaluations of dynamic load components, hull strength and fatigue assessments.
Spars
From truss and cell spars to deep-draft caissons, ABS has classed three generations of spar designs, supporting their evolution into critical assets for deepwater production.
Pipelines and Risers
ABS provides verification for pipelines, risers and umbilicals, to ensure they are designed, fabricated and installed to meet approved standards and industry best practices.
Tension-Leg Platform (TLPs)
Since the advent of TLP technology, ABS has been instrumental in developing class standards to support these innovative platforms. Our expertise extends across the full range of TLP designs.
Semisubmersibles
ABS has decades of experience classing purpose-built and converted production semisubmersible platforms for deployment in deepwater fields.
Well Established Relationship with Regulators
- We remain the only classification society authorized to act on behalf of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to inspect and approve floating offshore design, construction, installation, and equipment for the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.
- ABS has acted as Certified Verification Agent (CVA) for BSEE on the majority of the floating production units operating in the Gulf of Mexico
- ABS is also experienced in Brazil regulatory framework and maintains strong interaction with ANP (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis) and DPC (Diretoria de Portos e Costas)
